FACE ID no longer opening up locked NOTES.

My NOTES app is no longer unlocking with my Facial Recognition, which has been set up for years. I no longer remember the Notes password.

Thanks for the reinforcement that I have to know the Notes password. My upset is that I did nothing to trigger this change of Face ID being the go-to mechanism to unlock my Notes. I set the original password, and yes, I have found the 4-letter hint that I apparently chose lo those many years ago. Bad on me to have not preserved this datum on any document that I can currently locate.

I also have this problem - but only on my iPad - it still works correctly on my iPhone AND Macbook Pro (albeit with TouchID). And I DO know my Notes password. It opens correctly when I use the password. But it has stopped trying to open it with Face ID - on the iPad. I have unchecked and re-checked the iPad's "Settings > Notes > Password > iCloud > Use Face ID" switch (it asks for my Notes password both times - and accepts them). It just doesn't try to use Face ID - it goes straight to using the password. (Which works).

I know that this is a secondary access method - but it is there to be more convenient - and I am used to having this convenience. And it WORKS on my iPhone. I suspect a bug. Both are at version 17.3.1 (I know that they are slightly different being iPadOS and iPhoneOS) - and I can see that version 17.4.1 is out on both devices. This (suspected) bug is not listed prominently - so I'll upgrade and see what happens.

FaceID is a secondary means of opening Notes. The primary is the notes password. If you reset the phone or transfer content to another device you will need the password, as you were told when you first created a password to lock a note. There is no way around this, but you do get unlimited guesses. And you had the option to create a password reminder when you set up the password the first time.
