Since Sonoma was installed, audio over Airplay keeps cutting out,

I play, almost exclusively, audio from my Music libraries using Airplay to a multi-room audio setup. I have Sonos speakers in my kitchen and a WiiM wireless streamer attached to my stereo sound system in my living room.

Since I installed Sonoma, the audio keeps cutting out to one or both rooms at what seem to be random moments. The Airplay symbol in Music will change colour from red to grey. Also, occasionally, the music will stop completely. I have to click on the Airplay symbol and recheck the boxes for the two rooms. This works sometimes but when it doesn't I have to stop and restart the Music application.

Note that I have ensured that both the Sonos speakers and the WiiM streamer have had the most recent software updates.

Your response was no help at all. As I previously indicated, I am streaming music from the Apple Music app on my Mac Studio to a pair of Sonos speakers in my kitchen and to my stereo that has a WiiM streamer usually at the same time. When I start playing music for the first time, the music will play for a few minutes and then cut out. In the Music app, it shows that the sound has been shut off and that the wireless connection has been lost on the two destinations. I re-establish the wireless connection and then hit the play arrow. Sometimes the music starts but, more usually, I find I have to close and then reopen the Music app.

Once I have done this, the music will play for a period of time but at some point, it cuts out again.

I have tested my setup using the Music App from my iPhone and there appears to be no problem.

We appreciate you reaching out to us.

We’d like to gather additional details that may help us be in a better position to assist you.

Have you had the chance to test if the issue persists if you AirPlay from a different device?

Trying a different device can help further isolate the issue.

If you are experiencing the issue when signed in on a different user account, please check if the issue persists while on safe mode. Safe mode does a basic check of your startup disk, similar to using First Aid in Disk Utility.

Performing this step may help resolve the issue, or further isolate the issue.

Below is an article to help guide you through the process.

I have similar - although not identical - problems with airplay. OS 14.3 in combination with 2 airplay speakers on WiFi and 1 speaker which is wired to a LAN. Note also that (after a long hesitation) I switched from OS 12 to 14 very recently, and that is when the problems began.

Airplay keeps "forgetting" the WiFi speakers, occasionally even while playing an album, also sometimes with chopped sound. At the same time, the LAN speaker has no problem at all.

Moreover, when Airplay looses contact to the WiFi speakers, the router still shows them as connected to the network !

Perhaps that helps to resolve the issue sooner. Or is there a workaround already?
