Continuity camera disconnects in a random way while scanning documents

I am using MB Air M1 2020 Sonoma 14.0 with iPhone 13 Pro iOS 17.0.2 as continuity camera for Preview documents scanning.

I have already done all the checks and restarts and there is no change. Sometimes it lets me scan up to 24 pages (which is the feature limit) - sometimes it disconnects after a few pages - sometimes after the first one.

There is no difference between wireless connection and USB cable connection and in my opinion it shows that the trouble is not in losing connection itself. Any thoughts? It is one great feature but for now the user experience is terrible. Very often I need to scan the same pages over and over again - very annoying.

WORKAROUND

I figured it out and I think it might be useful for others.

If you want to scan many pages into one document and your continuity camera keeps disconnecting follow this steps:

On your iPhone:

  1. Open 'Files" app
  2. From drop-down menu tap "Scan Documents"
  3. Scan up to 24 pages (in my opinion switching to manual is faster especially whit some minor corrections)
  4. Save the pdf document
  5. AirDrop the document to your Mac

On your Mac:

  1. Create new PDF file with "Preview" app
  2. Drag the AirDropped file at the end of the "Thumbnails" in new PDF - it adds all 24 pages to the end of the document.
  3. Save the PDF

Repeat the procedure until done with scanning.

Cheers!
