Problem updating display firmware to version 17

Suggestion:

After updating my MacMini M2 to Sonoma, another update for the firmware for the display was requested. This update attempted at least 6 times and continued to not install. I attempted to screen share into the Mini but was unable to establish a connection to it. I unplugged an external Lacie USB-C hard drive from the display and the next time the update attempted, the update was successful.

I suggest removing any external USB devices from the display prior to updating firmware.

Update - shut down everything and powered off for a minute. Then restarted with no USB devices plugged into the Studio Display. This time it actually said it was updating and gave the 3-dot indicator. Now at V17.

Thanks for the tip. In my case, I had to disconnect all USB and Thunderbolt cables (even those not connected to anything) other than the Studio Display, boot into Safe Mode, apply the firmware update (yet again), which when that restarted, finally updated the SD firmware to v17.0.

My Studio Display also refuses to update to version 17, but never gives any errors. I did try removing all USB devices (thanks for that tip), but it had no effect.
