iPhone Ringer sound decreases to almost zero after a first ring

I have a iphone 14 with the iOS Version 16.7 installed. I will turn my ringer volumn all the way up but at times the phone will ring ONCE and then not ring again or ring very low to start with (even though I had previously turned the volumn up all the way) and I'm missing calls. I also turned off the button control for volumn in case that was being hit in some way. I have an Apple Watch and I use face recognition along with a password. What is causing the phone ringer to not ring at all or ring only once. This happens while the phone is in my jacket pocket so I'm trying to figure out why it's not ringing or the ringer volumn goes down on its own even though I had it turned up all the way. Thank you.

Hello ninetta277,

Thank you for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. Just to be sure, let's ensure that the volume for the ringtone is set to a high level. To do this you'll need to go in Settings > Sounds & Haptics > adjust the slider for ringtone and alerts to the right. Then restart your iPhone and test to see if that helps.

In addition, we noticed you mentioned that you're on iOS 16.7. There's a recent update available which is iOS 17.0.2 that's available for your iPhone 14. This is a good step that can help provide software improvements that may help you in this scenario. If needed, here's how to update the software:

Update your iPhone or iPad wirelessly
1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
4. If you see more than one software update option available, choose the one that you want to install.
5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do.

Kind regards.
