CarPlay audio not working after 17.0.1 update
14 Pro Max in a 2018 Audi Q7, non-touchscreen, hardwired USB factory CarPlay:
On Audis (and presumably others), voice navigation is routed through the front center channel speaker while all other audio is sent to all channels/speakers.
After updating to 17.0.1, all audio goes through the single center channel speaker so it sounds muddy and hollow. Only way to get it back to the expected behavior (all speakers, full tone) is to restart the phone, and sometimes that doesn't work on the first try.
This morning, at first plug-in, phone audio was only coming out of the center channel. I switched to the car's own satellite radio and verified that all speakers were still working. Switched back to CarPlay and the phone audio was still only coming through the center channel. Restarting the phone did not fix this issue on the first try.
Upon restart, I had CarPlay control of the phone but now audio was only coming out of the phone speaker and CarPlay did not even show up as an available audio output in iOS17. Restarted the phone, which fixed the audio output issue and all audio was coming out of all channels/speakers as expected. However, after Siri read a text message, all audio reverted to the center channel and I had to restart the phone again to get back to normal.
I removed my car from CarPlay settings on the phone and then added it back, creating a new connection, and this did not fix the issue. I do not use bluetooth with this car, only a hardwired USB connection. This did not happen with iOS 17.0.0. Restarting the phone a third time finally solved the problem, but I am avoiding having Siri read text messages or using GPS navigation until this is solved.
