Unable to mount any external drive - error 49229

Updated iMac Pro to Sonoma 14.0 - I had 4 external SSD drives that are now refusing to mount. They are each on separate USB cables and there is no way all 4 became simultaneously corrupted. Disk utility reports com.apple.DiskManagement.disenter error 49229

They are encrypted, however. What am I missing?

I had this problem too. Tried everything, but nothing worked. Then Googled for macOS updates for Sonoma... and found 14.1.2, installed it, and everything is back to normal!!!

I don't know why the Apple techs wouldn't have suggested that already on this thread.

Now 14.1.2 did NOT show up as an auto-update option or notification on my computer, despite the fact that I was running 14.0. I had to search for it. And it took hours to download which suggests that it is being rolled out to a lot of people, perhaps on a rolling basis.
