Music on iWatch when using CarPlay

I have a CarPlay system in my car and connect to it with my iPhone when I’m driving. However, I have noticed that when I play Apple Music from my phone through the CarPlay system, it connects to my watch. Is there any way of turning this off as it uses up my battery when driving to work (45 minutes…)? I still want to use CarPlay, connect my iPhone and use my watch but it just eats the power up in that time…

Thanks but this doesn’t respond to my question. I don’t want my iwatch to show me what music I am playing on CarPlay automatically as it currently does. This never used to happen on iOS 9 for iwatch

Hey burke2000,

The only way to stop the behavior is to either turn off your Apple Watch, or unpair it from the companion iPhone. At present, there isn't a way to stop this. However, Apple does appreciate all feedback regarding our products, services, and features. If you'd like to provide feedback on your experience with our products or services, you can do so using this link: Feedback - Watch - Apple

All the best.

Hello burke2000,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. When your Apple Watch is paired to your iPhone, it will communicate which music is being played. This is called Now Playing. This resource explains more: Use Now Playing on Apple Watch - Apple Support

The resource states the following:

Audio will play through your iPhone’s speaker or an audio device paired with it.

This is regardless if you're connected to CarPlay. You'll notice this also when using Maps while your iPhone is connected to CarPlay. Your Apple Watch will still receive turn by turn directions. This feature can't be disabled.

We hope this information is useful. Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Take care.
