Lock screen option removed in latest watchOS upgrade

After the latest upgrade to watch OS 10, when I’m in a workout and swipe right on the screen, the option to lock the screen has been removed! Why is this? How do I lock the screen while I’m in a workout? Terrible feature change Apple!

Not the best answer below. But, I just discovered the option to Lock Screen while workout is still there, only thing they moved it.

Do like this:

  1. Start workout
  2. Press side button to open up Control Center
  3. Press the water icon to lock screen
  4. Go nuts on your workout session
  5. Press and hold the crown to de-activate

Totally agree this is such a bad move by apple, especially as the watch has a mind of it's own in the wet and I've had workouts paused or stopped due to damp clothes touching the screen. The workout lock function was great to prevent this happening, but now it's been removed.

Hopefully this will be reinstated very quickly, otherwise it maybe time to find a different watch to record my outside activities

In watchOS 10, you use the Water Lock 💧 icon in Control Center to disable the Apple Watch buttons and screen touch features.

The previous Control Center swipe-up has moved to a quick press and release of the flat oval side button

DO NOT hold the button, as that brings up Emergency services and the power off icon.

Getting the press and release timing just right can be an issue. You can make it more reliable by changing: Settings -> Accessibility -> Side Button Click Speed “Side Button Click Speed” can adjust the press and release timing, so you get the Control Center display every time. Adjusting The "Side Button Click Speed" is also useful for Apple Pay’s double press and release. There is “Default” (sub second timing of needed), “Slow” (up to a second between press and release), and “Slowest” (up to 2 seconds between press and release). I like the “Slow” setting. NOTE: Slow and Slowest settings do not mean you have to wait a full second or 2 seconds between press and release. It just means you do not need to be super fast.

I hate the new update!!! I’ve locked the screen and after a long workout I stop to record and ”bam”, it had stopped recording shortly after! So ******. This has now happened 3 times. So frustrating!

Apple, please please bring back the lock function!! Putting the watch in water mode doesn't accomplish the same thing. Every time I finish a workout I look at my watch only to find water mode was turned off during my workout and my workout isn't recorded. This is trashing a key feature of the watch. Please fix what you've broken.

This functionality seems to have gone altogether doesn’t it? Not just for workouts?

If I’m listening to music or podcasts while gardening or renovating with my headphones on, previously I could lock the screen. Now I can’t seem to be able to, so whenever I move my wrist in 45 degree angle the crown turns the volume up or down. Pressing the button on side locks for a few seconds, then it automatically unlocks again?!?

am I missing a trick here too? Or will my watch basically just need to live in ‘water’ mode?

This new work around is far less than ideal. To get to that step this way, I now can’t see my workout during the workout itself, it just goes back to the home screen in lock mode so I can’t see any of my stats. Anyone know a work around for that? If not it’s definitely time to move on. I can’t get through a single workout of any kind without the workout pausing if it’s not locked
