Green Screen and Flickering Lines Issue with Samsung Viewfinity S9 Monitor on MacBook Pro 2018

Hello macOS Community,

I hope this finds you all well. I am reaching out to seek your assistance with a persistent issue I am facing with my Samsung Viewfinity S9 5K monitor when connected to my MacBook Pro 2018 with Touch Bar.

Problem Description:

Whenever I connect my MacBook Pro to the Samsung Viewfinity S9 monitor, the screen does not display correctly. Instead of showing the desktop or any content, it turns green with flickering lines, making it impossible to use. I have tried various resolutions, but the issue remains.

Troubleshooting Steps Taken:

  • I have ensured that I am using the correct, high-quality cables that support 5K resolution.
  • It works fine with a Windows 10 PC.
  • I have attempted to adjust the resolution settings on my MacBook It works only with 1920 x 1080 in 60Hz. And all other resolution only with 30Hz.
  • My MacBook Pro and the monitor have the latest updates installed.

Additional Information:

  • MacBook Pro Model: MacBook Pro 2018 with Touch Bar
  • Monitor Model: Samsung Viewfinity S9
  • Connection Type: USB-C (provided by the monitor)
  • macOS Version: 13.5.2 (22G91)

Despite these efforts, the green screen with flickering lines persists. I am attaching a screenshot to provide a visual representation of the issue.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue, or does anyone have any suggestions on additional troubleshooting steps I can take or settings I can adjust to resolve this? Any insights or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your time and assistance!

Best regards,

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 13.5

Hello smile0x90,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

Here are a few steps that may help with your display issues:

"Detect your display

If your Mac can't detect your external display, your external display will be dark. Use one or more of these steps to try again to detect your display.

  • Disconnect the display from your Mac, then reconnect it. It might help to turn off the display first.
  • Put your Mac to sleep, then wake it. On Mac laptop computers, you can close the lid for a few seconds, then open the lid again.
  • Choose Apple menu  > System Settings (or System Preferences), then click Displays. Press and hold the Option key to show the Detect Displays button, then click the button.
  • Restart your Mac. If you can't restart your Mac, press and hold its power button for about 10 seconds to turn it off. Then press and release the power button to turn it back on.

Allow your display to connect

When connecting a display to a Mac laptop computer with Apple silicon, your Mac might ask you to allow this accessory (your display) to connect. If you don't allow it to connect, your display remains dark. Learn more about allowing accessories to connect to Mac laptop computers."

Additional details can be found here: If your external display is dark or low resolution

If the issue persists, can you provide a few more details? Are you able to connect to other displays? Also, what is your exact macOS version?

Cheers!
