Mac 2023 M2 Smart Card Detection

My Smart Card is not detected on my new Macbook. Ony my old macbook I would get "ctkbind" notification with Gemalto PC Twin Reader with description "Unpaired SmartCard inserted: ProID token driver" (example screenshot attached). But now I get nothing. I cannot connect to the systems secured by the smart card.

I tried following commands when card was connected:

╰─ pluginkit -m -p com.apple.ctk-tokens

com.apple.CryptoTokenKit.pivtoken(1.0)

╰─ sudo security list-smartcards

No smartcards found.

Please help

It is probably blocked because it had not been approved as an accessory.

If you go to System Settings > Privacy & Security, scroll down to the bottom and there is a setting to ask to allow accessories. If you set it to Always Ask, it should ask when you plug in the reader with the card.

I can't remember if it asked about my smart card reader, but it is the only thing I can think might be going on.

I think there are some smart card readers that require some sort of driver software, but not sure about that, either.

You would have had to install it on the previous Mac.

You will need to contact your IT Help Desk for this.

There are many different models of smart cards and smart card readers. Your organization will likely only support one specific set of card, reader, software version combination. This is much more difficult when using a Mac. All of these smart card companies are years behind in supporting Macs. It will be a significant effort just to contact your tech support channels and find anyone that has ever heard of Ventura.

Then you are the IT help desk. It will be your responsibility to get it running. You will need to contact the support services for whatever smart card you happen to have as well as whatever service you are trying to contact with it. With these devices, there are only very specific combinations of versions that will work with specific sites. There is no way for us on the internet to know what any of those might be.
