Safari profiles on ios 17 and bookmarks / history

After playing with safari profiles in IOS 17 I do not fully understand it, maybe. It is advertised as having private history, cookies, fav's etc. However, when I create a new profile and even specify a separate location for its fav's, when I switch to this profile in safari I can still see all my fav's and also all my history. I expected it to be completely empty as it is a new profile.

Same query. Created a new profile, would like to password protect or lock reading tabs & bookmarks there so they aren’t shown with “regular” profile. Understanding that the point of “private browsing” is to allow tracking, history, etc. but feel there must be a way to lock down a bookmark somewhere somehow in the iOS platform? I’m aware this is a google option but I prefer the UI through Safari & not logging in to Google profile.
