I purchased a new imac and I am trying to transfer all of the data from my 2015 imac to the new one. I used the wifi method and it did a poor job and then told me to try again. I am now attempting to connect them with a thunder bolt connector. unfortunately the recommended cable that I bought thru Amazon will not work on the 2015 imac. Any assistance you can provide will be greatly appreciated, thank you

My experience has been that connecting old Mac to new Mac for Migration Assistant is fastest via a Thunderbolt connection.
You've already found out that WiFi doesn't work very well.
Some here have used crossover ethernet cables, but Thunderbolt is much faster.
My experience has been that transferring via Thunderbolt is much faster than via Time Machine backup, too. (The speed gap closes if you're using a USB-C external drive, but it's still going to be slower than Thunderbolt).

KiltedTim is 100% correct. Connect the old macs Time Machine External Hard Disk to the new Mac using a USB cable. This is the fastest and most reliable method!! You likely will need a USB adapter which is less than $10 on Amazon.
The fastest, most efficient way to transfer your data is using Migration assistant to import it from your existing Time Machine backup.
