Macbook Air password not working

Bought my daughter an open box Macbook Air. We set everything up, including the touch ID. IOt is asking for her password for the laptop and the only password she ever uses is not working. Honestly, I cannot recall if we made a password while setting it up. She is college and freaking out :-) Thanks in advance for any advice on how to retrieve the password.

I’m inputting a correct password at the startup, but it’s not logging me in. It doesn’t lock me out after third try to reset my password. What do I do? my daughter is logging into her MacBook Air with her password, but it’s not accepting it and not logging her in. It doesn’t lock her out to reset her information.
