I recently had to restart my MacBook Pro in safe mode after I had password problems and I am now getting this error message when I try to update the hotmail account because it has stopped sending emails from Mail. Every time I try to save the changes I received the following message:

A IMAP account already exists. Only a single IMAP account is allowed to be saved.

I removed the account from Mail and then added it again but it has not changed the situation. I have read advice to restart in safe mode but it is this that caused the problem. Doing this also cleared my keychain passwords which is an absolute pain I do not want to go through again.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix this issue please?

Hey l_s2020,

Starting the MacBook Pro in Safe Mode, shouldn't make any changes to your data. It's used to ensure the issue isn't due to software that starts when the Mac boots up.

Make sure you have the correct settings set up with your Hotmail account on your Mac.

If you continue to experience the same behavior, let's proceed with the following steps:

Take care.
