Music imported from CD is not syncing to my iPhone

I am having a nightmare. So in trying to fix the old album artwork not matching correctly on iPhone I followed the steps to delete all the music from my iPhone (iOS 16.6.1) and then resync to my MacBook Cataline 10.15.7) to update it. However since doing this it will not sync all of the music that I uploaded into Music (used to be call iTunes) from CDs. So now instead of having some mismatched album artwork I am now missing 2/3 of all my music from my iPhone.

I have tried everything without success, including the post on erratic syncing which doesn't address this issue at all. So quite simply how do I sync ALL the music currently on my MacBook to my iPhone and not just the music purchased from the iTunes store?

Sync Library is turned off, which as I understand it should enable me to sync non-iTune purchased music, but it's not working.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15

Latest, after about the 20th attempt re-starting both devices, syncing with no music and then manually managing and dragging albums across it has finally worked. Would love to know why this didn't work 1st time and why iTunes/Music and syncing is so problematical, this really is something that Apple need to get a grip off because it is so frsutrating!

Reading another post I have just tried syncing with no music selected, it did nothing, then selected manually manage music, etc. and tried dragging albums into the phone listed under Devices in the sidebar, again this does absolutely nothing.

The odd thing is if I click on the phone under Devices in Music it does list everything, however 2/3 do not show in my phone music library. Also I have gone from having 40gb of music down to only 13gb according to the storage data on my phone, so something really odd it going on here and I am close to throwing both the phone and MacBook out of the window and going to Android and Windows!
