apparently my Mac battery isn’t charging despite the light on the charging device showing green. I would like to shut and restart the Mac to see if it will help, but I can’t see how to do it.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately the machine is stuck on a screen that doesn’t show the Apple logo. It won’t charge, it won’t boot, it won’t shut down. Possibly a battery issue but the battery is relatively new.
Click the Apple logo then click either "Shut down" or "Restart".
