You should try to do an hard reset.

Do this you will have to:

Press Volume Up button

Press Volume Down button

Press and hold the Power Button until you see the Apple logo, then release it.

It should solve the most common issues.

Just the normal way.

What might be normal for you might not be normal for others.

What happens if you tap.....Settings > General > Scroll down and tap Shut Down?

If still no luck......try a Forced Restart. Follow the instructions very carefully, as this is a bit tricky. You may need to repeat this several times.

There are only 2 possible results when you perform a Forced Restart:

1) The phone returns to normal operation

or

2) There is a hardware problem with the phone that will need attention at the Apple Store (make an appointment) or at an authorized Apple Service shop.

No sure why you marked your "thanks" as the Best Answer, but glad that you got the phone shut down.

Did you try holding down the Side button...and....the Volume Down button at the same time?

Press on right side of phone along with left side all together.

Did you mean to say press on the button on the right side while you simultaneously press on the Volume Down button on the left side?

We don't want to waste your time asking you to do things that you have already tried before, so to get a batter understanding of things......could you please briefly list the steps that you have tried to turn off your phone?

not getting the Apple to be able to swipe

For what it's worth though.....there is no Apple to "swipe" when you do shut off the phone. The screen should look like this before you slide the power button to the right.
