How do I stop segments during a workout on Apple Watch?

Select the Workout Activity, such as "Outdoor Walk" NOTE: Do not start the walk, instead:

  1. Tap the 3 dots in the upper righthand corner
  2. Then, Tap the Pencil Icon
  3. Then, SCROLL down to "Splits"
  4. Tap "Splits"
  5. Where it says "Splits Alert' ensure you TURN OFF the alert by tapping the righthand "slide" to GRAY instead of GREEN.
  6. This should turn off your unwanted segments and splits notifications. The segments should be available once you stop your workout, should you want to access them.

Why should we have to disable lap splits to get rid of segments. I get segment alerts when a damp sleeve touches the screen. I’ll never use segments but always use 1 mile splits.

Please for all that is holy give us the option to disable segments!

I assigned a shortcut to the orange action button. This way, when the button is pressed, it opens the shortcut which launches a menu, so if no menu item is selected, the shortcut just goes away and no segment alert is displayed.

To make things even tighter, I launch workouts from the menu in the shortcut that is assigned to the action button. The first menu item on that shortcut prompts to select a workout (e.g. Cross Training, Yoga, Run). The workout selection is followed by enabling water lock. This locks the dail and function buttons. This makes the phone unresponsive to any button or screen touch until the water lock is disabled.

I tried that, segments is “turned off” on my watch. This morning when I ran in cold weather a sleeve must have brushed across the watch and segments started going off anyway, including three that said “0 meters, 0 seconds.” I had to guesstimate my time and distance because this went on for 10 minutes. Luckily it was the end of my run. A major flaw in the watch for runners (that and the fact that it is very difficult at times to stop your time at the end of a hot, sweaty run)

That appears to work for cycling, which I haven't had any problem with, but I don't see it for outdoor walk or run. I only have problems with those two.

At least now I know in case I do have segment problems with cycling. Regardless, thanks for the info.

I have exactly the same problem. I called Apple support 3-4 times on the issue when it was watchOS 10. Now with watchOS 11 the problem is still there. My sleeve skips music tracks, drops segment marks and today (a whole new experience) it checked in with my friend during the workout!for all the buzz words machine learning andAI Apple is totally impotent to solve this annoying problem!
