How do I stop segments during a workout on Apple Watch?

Today I was cycling to work and my apple watch created 11 segments out of nowhere.

I will try to use Strava instead Apple Workouts to make sure if the problem is the app or the watch, but for sure a lot of people here is having the same issue and Apple should take a look on it.

I couldn't agree more. As soon as I wear a rain jacket on a walk or hike I start getting ridiculous alerts and segment screens. Incredibly annoying and completely and totally useless. Today I had 17 segment alerts in less than ninety seconds - most of them for a single metre.

I have exactly the same problem. I called Apple support 3-4 times on the issue when it was watchOS 10. Now with watchOS 11 the problem is still there. My sleeve skips music tracks, drops segment marks and today (a whole new experience) it checked in with my friend during the workout!for all the buzz words machine learning andAI Apple is totally impotent to solve this annoying problem!

This does not work. Take the segments off the app. They are so annoying during my workouts, to the point that I am contemplating getting rid of my Apple watch. It feels like the people that made this feature don’t really work out.

I called Apple and spoke to multiple technicians about the segment issue. They claimed it hasn't been reported by anyone which seems impossible based on this community. They said they would get back to me but never did. Do what I did and sell the watch and buy a Garmin. Unfortunately as much as apple likes to market their watches like they understand athletes, they simply do not. The watch is totally dependent on the phone as well which to me, defeats the purpose. You cannot even navigate without the phone. The segment thing is ridiculous. They should be embarrassed

Yes using the water lock feature does work but you also can’t use anything else on the watch such as switches playlists or selecting a podcast without turning off the lock.

Yeah, no doubt it would be much better if segments could be turned off. Or rather, segments default would be off, and segments would have to be turned on.

I just tried this and my watch shows segments are off but when I start the run I can tap the face and still get a segment

I have the same exact issue! Please let us know how to disable this!!

The same thing happens to me - when it rains, it is a mess! it even stop the whole activity. So useless!
