My Desktop Kindle app required a new download. I am working on an old MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014) with 2.6 GHz Intel Core i5 running High Sierra 10.13.6. Upon decompressing the DMG file, the icon for the app shows a no-entry graphic over the app. I am unfamiliar with that. Can anyone help? Thanks.

That basically means it isn't compatible with that operating system. Check the requirements on the website.
High Sierra is from 2017.
If you still have 32 bit applications, you'll need to budget for an upgrade to Catalina first to before you can use many more modern applications.

Thank you. That's what I thought but needed confirmation. So, with that said, and with the age of my laptop, I guess I am out of luck using the Kindle desktop version with certain files.
Correct. You would have to contact Kindle support to see if they can make older releases of its software available.
