Cropping / zooming photos of contacts in iOS does not work

Contact photo reverts back to the original immediately after saving. Any fixes for this? Currently on iOS 16, but experiencing the issue also across earlier iOS versions.

OK, I might have an answer: What finally worked was realizing that some of my contacts were originally managed in Gmail; and that the sync between Google and Apple iCloud contact photos was not working properly.

To check if you have any accounts other than iCloud set up on your iPhone with access to Contacts (e.g. Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook): go to iOS -> Settings -> Contacts -> Accounts; and see which of those accounts have "Contacts" enabled.

Hope this post is helpful for some. Searching online comes up with many similar posts and frustration with this issue across 9+ years, with no convincing answers. Now that it seems to work properly for me, I’m curious to hear if it will work for others as well.

Troubleshooting Cropping/Zooming of Contacts:

Are you taking about screenshots? OR are you talking about the photos you've assigned as to the Contact? If you want to enlarge it, then you'd have to take a screenshot of the image, zoom in as desired, and then add the screenshot. Save the original photo, or else all of it would be lost: Take a Screenshot on your iPhone - Apple Support
