saving a photo from messages

I have a photo that someone sent in messages on my iPhone 11 Pro. I want to save to photos. I have hit save and copy, but cannot find it. where does it go?

New Iphone didn't transfer message photos I just transferred over to the Iphone 14 pro and when I am in my messages it is not showing any of my pictures that have been sent in the past. I have clicked on the contact photo in messages and scrolled down but there is not even a photos section because it is not showing any of them. I can scroll through my messages and find the photo but it isn't grouping them altogether and it is making it difficult to find my photos. How can I get my photos for all my messages to show back up for each contact?

Most likely into Photos. Second would be in the files app.

You should see a down arrow in imessage next to a photo. Tap that to have the media downloaded directly into photos -- it's a little faster.

never mind, it finally showed up (3 of them). just need to be patient!
