System Settings > Accessibility > Switch Control >
or search Settings "Capitalize"

This caused me to wonder if he ever used capital letters. Apparently, he was quite displeased that publishers printed his name in all lowercase. He didn't do so himself.
Make sure auto capitalization is not turned on in these three System settings panes:

FWIW, a new sentence or paragraph should be capitalized.
