Keyboard light not working after Ventura 13.5 update

My 2019 MBP (Intel) no longer has a keyboard light option in the System Settings and the other options for adjusting the keyboard brightness do not work. My camera works fine, but keyboard brightness stays at zero - the slider that adjusts brightness goes back to zero every time I drag it to the right. Everything else is fine, I reinstalled the OS, reset NVRAM and SMC, no change. Genius at Apple Store also had no fix. Any assistance is appreciated.

MacBook Pro 13″, 13.5

I tried the Diagnostics test but no issues were found (thanks for that tip, didn't know about that). It looks like the Configurator requires an additional Mac, which I don't have unfortunately. I think I'm stuck here. I don't think it's a hardware issue because it happened immediately after the OS update and the keyboard option is missing from the system settings, which suggests a software issue. I will keep looking for options, thanks for your help!

Hi! I have the same issue immediately after updating my MacBook Pro and I’ve tried everything . Now Apple is telling me that it’s a hardware issue that I was not experiencing before I updated it . Trust me, I am not happy about having to pay money for an issue I didn’t have prior to the new update and the fact I didn’t causes it ticks me off just much. I pray that someone figures this problem out soon!

I've been facing this issue for more than a year too. Similar to what you and others in this forum have described, the problem started following a system update. I even brought my device to the Apple Store, but unfortunately, they couldn't resolve it. I've attempted all the suggested fixes mentioned here, but nothing has worked so far. Has anyone come across a successful solution yet?

Well you would of hoped NVRAM and SMC would sort it out

if no resolve— you can try the Configurator:

if it is hardware issue—you can try User Diagnostics to test your Mac— it does not always find the issue or kick an error code
