iCloud Desktop & Documents sync won't turn on

My boss asked why his desktop will no longer sync to iCloud like it used to. In system settings, we saw the switch was off for desktop and documents sync but if we clicked it to turn it on, a little loading circle would show up then disappear and the switch would turn off again.

He is using a M2 Max MacBook Pro 14" running MacOS 13.4.1

Hi IsaacSturg,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. We understand you are running into an issue enabling iCloud Desktop & Documents, and we're happy to help. Check out the steps below to help resolve this:

  1. Check that you're using the steps to turn on Desktop and Documents here: Add your Desktop and Documents files to iCloud Drive - Apple Support
  2. You mentioned this is your boss' Mac. Was this supplied by an employer? If so, these settings may not be adjustable due to settings put in place by an administrator. See more about that here: Use configuration profiles to standardize settings on Mac computers - Apple Support

Thanks.
