Since upgrading to iOS 16.6 on iPhone 8 my phone is struggling to charge. I have tried a number of cables and have cleaned the port done a hard restart etc. it also burnt through a whole charge in a 6 hours with little to no use.
any ideas?

Your battery is at the end of its life, Apple recommends replacing it at 80%. That is why it isn't charging properly.
Batteries degrade over time with usage due to chemical aging, that's just how they work.
You can expect about a 1% drop per month with average use on an iPhone.

At you own risk, you can keep on using an exhausted battery, but it can have unpredictable behavior and (it can stop working suddendly).
If I were in your shoes, I would make an appointment and have your battery replaced as soon as possible, AND I would create a full backup of your iPhone's content immediately, before your device dies completely.

Check your battery health in Settings>Battery>Battery Health & Charging>Maximum Capacity
Capacity is at 75% but it is more a charging issue. Plugged in for 4 hours and only charged to 50%
Thanks all I got battery replaced today. Has been holding out to try and make it last until the launch of the 15 in a few weeks. Have to say that charging still seems slow
