counting steps while using rollator/walker

just had a hip replacement, so I need to use a rollator or walker. When I do, Apple Watch undercounts my steps. Using Outdoor Walk in Activity it shows a correct map of path (half a mile block) but only 249 steps and .02 miles around the block.

Steps counted when rocking in a chair I have a La Z Boy recliner that I frequently use to rock in and I noticed that my watch is registering every rock as a step. On a day when I should have had about 6k steps, it registered 19k. I currently have the Ultra and I’m considering returning it. I read somewhere that I can calibrate it and that may work, but I own a Garmin Fenix and I’ve never had this issue. In fact the Garmin is incredibly accurate and in the two years that I’ve owned it, it’s never once registered the rocking as footsteps. How can Garmin figure it out but not Apple? I’d just like some feedback before I rush to conclusions and return it.

Counting steps when using a rolling walker (rollator) Recently, my girlfriend and I were on a city trip that required a lot of walking. When comparing our steps and distance in the Health app at the end of the day, my steps and distance were not half that of hers. As I'm using a rolling walker, I suspected the lack of wrist movement was to blame. The next day, I left the watch at home and carried the iPhone in my pocket. This resulted in much more comparable results - I know I take longer steps than she does, so didn't expect it to match completely. So here is the question: how do I tell my watch that I'm "physically challenged", and the step counting should be left to my iPhone? And Apple: shouldn't the watch record this discrepancy automagically?
