Go to Settings/General/Software Update and follow the instructions.

To update over the air from the phone all of these requirements must be met:

  • You need at least 10 GB of free storage for iOS 16 or 6 GB for iOS 15 or lower; more is better
  • You must be connected to a Wi-Fi network (and not a personal hotspot)
  • The phone must be charged to at least 50%, and preferably plugged in so it stays above 50% during the update
  • The phone must not be in Low Power Mode
  • The phone must not be connected through VPN, and it may be necessary to delete any VPN apps and VPN profiles
  • The phone cannot be in Airplane mode and must have a cellular data connection
  • You cannot still have a beta of a previous version installed on the phone
  • You cannot have a previous version that was downloaded, but not installed - go to Settings/General/iPhone Storage to look; if you find an iOS installer, delete it

If you can't meet all of them you can still update using your computer.

here are some things you can try if you're having trouble updating your iPhone software:

  1. Make sure you have a strong internet connection. You'll need at least a 5Mbps connection to download the update.
  2. Check your storage space. You need at least 5GB of free space to download and install the update.
  3. Restart your iPhone. Sometimes a simple restart can fix software update problems.
  4. Force restart your iPhone. If a restart doesn't work, you can try force restarting your iPhone. To do this, press and hold the power button and the home button at the same time for about 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
  5. Update your iPhone using a computer. If you're still having trouble, you can try updating your iPhone using a computer. To do this, connect your iPhone to your computer and open iTunes. Click on your iPhone in the sidebar and then click on "Check for Updates." If an update is available, iTunes will download and install it for you.

If you've tried all of these things and you're still having trouble, you can contact Apple support for help.

Here are some additional tips for updating your iPhone software:

  • If you're not sure if your iPhone is compatible with the latest version of iOS, you can check Apple's website.
  • If you have a lot of apps installed on your iPhone, it may take longer to download and install the update.
  • If you're updating your iPhone over a cellular connection, it may incur data charges.
  • It's a good idea to back up your iPhone before updating the software. This way, if something goes wrong, you can restore your iPhone to a previous version.
