Stop Notification Virus Detected: Trojan

I have an iMac. My browser is Safari. Kept getting annoying hack notifications. This worked for me. In safari went to preferences, then websites, on left selected notifications, and removed all. On left selected downloads and went 1 at a time: mostly if I was familiar with the website and did occasional downloads, I left it alone, otherwise I just removed it. Have had no more virus notifications
