2022 RAV4 steering wheel controls not working with CarPlay

The volume and track button on my steering wheel seem to not be working with CarPlay any longer. If I want to forward a song I have to use the touch screen. The volume was the first action which stopped working on the steering wheel and after the last iOS update (16.6) the tracking controls on the steering wheel stopped working. The volume does not work AT ALL even with the knob. I have tried removing the car from my phone, turning my phone off and restarting it, turning off CarPlay in my car and reconnecting and none of that works. Used different cords, brand new cords etc. It is not working for my husband either with his iPhone who has 16.6 and the same phone, iPhone 13 Pro. Anyone have any insight into this issue? It was working great until the last two updates. It's super frustrating.

It is NOT my car, as all controls work when not using CarPlay.

I would start all over as though you had never paired the iPhone to the RAV4. Beyond that, Apple may have introduced something in the updates that you have no control over, frustrating as that sounds.

Also, since Apple does not provide a specific iOS or CarPlay feedback link, you might consider sending direct feedback to the iPhone product team with as much detail as possible about your CarPlay .vs. iOS update issue.

Talk to your dealer service department and see if there is any firmware update for your car or a manufacturer's CarPlay update that can resolve this. We are fellow users and have virtually no means to resolve this for your RAV4.

I have a 2020 Rav4 and a 2021 Tundra. I have the same issue with the Rav4 but not on the Tundra. I reset apple play on the Rav4 and it worked for a couple of times and then stopped again. This issue is with Toyota not Apple Play. Toyota is the one who needs a software update. This issue will never be resolved!

Work with your Toyota service department and see if you can demonstrate the particular issue on the next Toyota Regional Service representative's visit. That may or may not get some traction if the regional rep is convinced there is a Toyota issue and may decide to communicate up the Toyota Service chain.
