Mac OS Ventura: Stop autosave error pop up dialog on Numbers file on mac server: could not be autosaved

For years this has been happening.

Pages, Numbers and Keynote.

I thought it was the NAS. I ported everything to a Mac Server running Monterey to try to fix this.

Every few minutes this staggeringly annoying dialogue pops up to interfere in my work.

I move the file to local hard drive and it stops doing it.

But then there’s three copies because it happens on the laptop too. Hey why not put it on Dropbox… and then have 6 copies?

The server is where and how I work with triple redundancy, raid and off site duplication. I want my live files in one centralised place without subscriptions or storing on other peoples computers.

Its infuriating!

GAH!

And yep, I have the ask me when closing documents dialogue closed. But it makes no difference.

AND NEVER EVER HAS IN YEARS.

FYI:

After coming across a similar issue with the same errors, user was working in Number (and Pages app had same behavior) when saving to an SMB file share.

Solution (tested and verified!) :

In Pages or Numbers application, open File menu -> Advanced -> Change File Type -> change to "Package".

This does not seem to change the actual user experience of the file type or cause any negatives in anyway, yet resolves the issue.

Cheers!
