MACMINI KEEPS CRASHING WHEN USING TOPAZ AI FOR VIDEO-PLS HELP AM DESPERATE TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM

Hi there everyone, I hope that you're well and not going around in circles and pulling your hair out like I have been doing for the past week!

After a great amount of watching and reading 'VERSUS' info on the whole gammut of AI video upscalers, I decided upon using Topaz AI and I can see that it makes an incredible amount of difference to my old footage in the preview, but when I try to export anything, I either get out of memory messages or more frequently now, it crashes and shuts down my whole system.

The settings for Topaz are set to using the eGpu for processing and the file paths set to an empty 1TB ex SSD.

I have tried a range of models and filters in Topaz and am trying to output to Prores 422HQ.

I have also tried just simply upscaling to 4K, aswell as simply upscaling using de-interlace to HD 1920x 1080

So MM specs are (now) on Ventura 13.5

3.2 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7 (which is AVX2 instruction set extension)

64 GB 2667 MHz DDR4 ( 2 x 32's)

8GB vram

paired with Razer Core

Chipset Model:    AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT eGpu

The minimum specs to run topaz are

Mac Operating SystemCatalina 10.15 and higher

CPU Intel with AVX instructions

System Memory (RAM)16 GB Graphics Card

Dedicated GPU from 2015 onward Video RAM2GB

AND the Recommended Specs are

Mac Operating System-Monterey or Ventura

System Memory (RAM)

32GBVideo

RAM8GB

So with my setup, I'm sure that I have more than enough to meet the recommended specs to run this program, but.....

I have also upgraded everything- except for the Egpu drivers, as for some reason, even though I have tried to upgrade them a dozens times following the instructions to a T, I do not get the same visual indication that the drivers did actually update, so I reached out to the razer community for help over a week ago and still no response.

This is the only thing that I can think of that would cause an issue.

But then I just realised that this would probably also affect my other gpu intensive programs too....wouldn't it?

If anyone can read crash reports, I have kept one from the macmini and one from topaz too.

Now that I have discovered Topaz Ai and can see the MASSIVE difference it can make to my old footage, I can't bear the thought of not being able to use it.

However, just as important is the fact that I should be able to use it, but can't, so need to solve that mystery and I have tried everything I know how to do, so now I am absolutely begging for help here.

I also run other GPU intensive apps on here with no issues, including the latest versions of the Ista PRO 360 stitcher and Insta 360 studio programs, aswell as the 2023 Adobe suite, so I just don't know why Topaz AI for Video and my macmini won't play nicely together...

I'm down on my knees begging for help and can't thank you all enough for helping me here.

Thank you thank you thank you!!!

iMac, macOS 10.13

I haven't tried using this app, but have you contacted the company who actually makes it for help beyond the community?

Have you tried a very short video file to see if it works at all for your system?

and posting what they say on their website, have you tried these steps:

Out-of-Memory Error

    • Reduce the number of other apps you are using.
    • Reduce the number of filters you are using and/or reduce the number of files you are processing.
    • Select File > Preferences (Mac Topaz Video AI > Preferences) and lower memory usage.

Yes they have been great. I have been in contact with them constantly since the start and they have been looking at everything from their end to try to help too, but all of their suggestions have not worked either and they are scratching their heads as they agree, the program should be working on my set up.

I have tried short (mb) vids shot on my old Sony A1P in 1440x1920 Interlaced; others shot in 4k on my old go pro, my sony Z7 and Nx5 and it doesn't matter what I have tried, it keeps crashing.

During each attempt, I have had no other apps running and have stopped all apps running in the background too.

I have created another log in and tried it on that account too.

I have about 175gb free on the internal ssd and have directed the output pathways to use the empty 1tb ssd.

And I am only using 1 filter- with attempts on a simple upscale to de-interlace and upscale to 1920x1080 (which won't even work when the input is the same...) and the other filter that I have tried them on is the simple upscale to 4k.

At their suggestion, I have made attempts lowering the memory usage, but that still hasn't helped.

The only thing that (half) makes sense is the inability to update the drovers on the eGpu- except then that would afffect all of my other intensive apps too.

It weird that when I first installed the app, the program did almost work properly.

It would spit out some exports here and there but each one was a 'temp' file and would be greatly reduced in the duration, then it started saying error message - out of memory (despite the fact that it has plenty ) and now for the most part, it just freezes the macmini then crashes, so whatever is happening, it is getting worse.

Not necessarily. The Topaz app may be pushing an aspect of the eGPU too hard or utilizing aspects of the eGPU that your other apps do not that the driver update may address.

So I really need to get the drivers updated on the Egpu then.

I just wish I knew what I was going wrong when trying to update the drivers as I'm following the instructions on the Razer website to a 't' but not getting the same visual indicator that they show.

So frustrating.

So I've been doing some tests again today on the new user acc on the mac.

So I imported some footage -576 mb shot on a Sony Nx5 at 1920x1080P.

reduced the egpu memory usage down to 50%

I got a successful export just upscaling it to 4k, but oddly enough, it came out interlaced.

The I got the same piece of footage and exported it to the de-interlace and upscale to 1920x1080 and got a successful export from that.

So then I took that and imported it and then tried to export that to 4k- and it did export successfuly, but the actual video is stuttery upon playback

I then got that same footage (not the stuttery) and tried to export it into 4k WITH a stabilisation filter- with the lowest settings on there, then that's when it all fell over.

And am giving the macmini a rest- until tomorrow.
