I think the only proper response here is that Apple will not let Apple TV 2's work any longer. I have two of them, and have spent the last hour trying to login to iCloud on both of them, to no avail.

As a community specialist just come out with the truth and say that Apple does not support our prior purchases and we must buy a new one rather than send a whole bunch of words and links that will not resolve the problem.

Hey fratinize,

First, we'd recommend reviewing this article for information on setting up and using iCloud Photos on Apple TV: View iCloud Photos and Shared Photo Library on Apple TV - Apple Support

If you're unable to sign into iCloud Photos, you may want to provide some additional information about what happens when you try to sign in with your iCloud/Apple ID account. Are you getting an error message?

We'd also recommend checking to ensure your Apple TV is up to date to ensure latest compatibility with Photos: Update your Apple TV - Apple Support

"What do you need to do?

Check whether you use iCloud Photos on all of your devices. If you don't use iCloud Photos, you can save photos currently in My Photo Stream to your device. To keep your photos synced across your devices, you can turn on iCloud Photos.

Check whether you use iCloud Photos

  • On your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > your name > iCloud. Make sure that it says "On" next to Photos on each of your devices.
  • On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, click your name, then click iCloud. Make sure that it says "On" next to Photos on each of your devices.

If you don't use iCloud Photos

The photos in My Photo Stream are already stored on at least one of your devices, so as long as you have the device with your originals, you won’t lose any photos as part of this process. If a photo you want isn't already in your library on a particular iPhone or iPad, make sure that you save it to your library on that device. Or, you can set up iCloud Photos.

Save photos currently in My Photo Stream on your iPhone or iPad

  1. Open Photos and tap Albums.
  2. Tap My Photo Stream > Select.
  3. Tap the photos that you want to save, then tap the Share button  > Save Image.

On a Mac, your My Photo Stream photos automatically import to your library.

Set up iCloud Photos

You can turn on iCloud Photos on any iPhone with iOS 8.3 or later, iPad with iPadOS 8.3 or later, or Mac with OS X Yosemite or later. After that, you can view your photos and videos in the Photos app on your iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, iCloud.com, and even sync them to a Windows PC using iCloud for Windows. "

Thanks!

It’s quite frustrating, Apple just wants you to buy a new device. This must be considered a legacy product at this point, but I don’t think it would make the boss looking down too happy. Apple has always been built as a company that builds products that last. As it’s true that this product still works, it was already built with limited functionality and it is disappointing they can’t update some code to get this problem fixed.

Much appreciated, but I have been down this road. my iCloud phots has been active since it started. I receive an error only Apple TV 2 and 3 iCloud unavailable

iCloud isn't set up for this Apple ID account.

this just is NOT the case. My iCloud is very much set up on my Apple ID. this issue is specific to the 2 and 3.

Advice from Apple was to Reset the Device. I did, but it has not resolved the issue.

I have Just Exhausted Apple Support. Chat Sent me to Phone. Of Course this is an Obsolete Device so Support is limited. At this point, maybe Apple Doesn't realize what broke. Support Says Apple TV 2 and Apple TV 3 are still supposed to be able to connect to iCloud. It is a Streaming Device, albeit NOT TVos, but I can connect and run netflix

Here is what I am Seeing at this point Apple TV 2 Can not Log into iTunes, cannot log into iCloud. However, the Apple TV 3, I am able to log into iTunes and connect to my computer and show movies/home video, but I can not log into iCloud. both machines say "iCloud isn't set up for this Apple ID account."

Anyone have any ideas?
