Hi Silverado1500Z71,

Did you reinstall macOS after you erased your Mac? Erasing it also deletes macOS itself, so it won't be able to start up until you reinstall macOS.

Complete these steps to fully erase your Mac and reinstall macOS using macOS Recovery. You'll need a strong Internet connection for this.

(Based on your macOS version, these steps assume that you have an Intel-based Mac running macOS Catalina.)

  1. If your Mac was associated with an Apple ID, make sure that you have that Apple ID and password ready. You might need to clear Activation Lock after erasing the Mac.
  2. Start up from macOS Recovery: hold down Command-R as you power on or restart your Mac. Release the keys when the Apple logo and a progress bar appear, or when a spinning globe appears. (In the latter case, select a Wi-Fi network if prompted.)
  3. If you're asked for an administrator name and password to continue, you didn't erase your Mac correctly and your data remains. Skip to step 6.
  4. The macOS Utilities window or the Recovery app should appear. Go to the menu bar at the top of the screen, and select Utilities -> Terminal.
  5. Type "resetpassword" without the quotes and hit Enter (Return).
  6. The Recovery Assistant app will appear. In the top menu bar, select Recovery Assistant -> Erase Mac.
  7. Complete the onscreen prompts to fully erase your Mac. It will then restart and start up from Internet Recovery (you might need to choose a Wi-Fi network again).
  8. If an Activation Lock window appears, enter the Apple ID and password that were previously associated with the Mac if prompted.
  9. The macOS Utilities window should reappear. Choose Install macOS and follow the onscreen instructions.
  10. When the Setup Assistant eventually appears after several restarts, press Command-Q to shut down the Mac so that your daughter can complete the Setup Assistant and make the Mac her own.
