Can't install email iPad iOS 9.3.5

I understand apple have made it so the older iOS running iPads cannot update and email won't work unless you have iOS 10 or later but what am I meant to do about getting my emails on this device? I use this iPad for work and recieving documents I use. which now I can't do because the browser option isn't able to download a word file etc. Any solutions?

I can’t get my e-mail on my new iPad I bought a new iPad Pro, only because my 5 yr old one died ! They transferred everything over, I did get mail in fact it kept backing up 3000 old email’s… They got that cleared up and now I don’t get any mail. My mail got disconnected !
