The merchant is responsible for selling a legitimate product and for security of the products they sell.
Report the scam to the store manager, local police and FTC.

Review the information provided here. There is no error message that says your card is bad, but there are several that you may see and the actions you should take.

The merchant you purchased it from should have activated the card in store. Apple cannot activate gift cards. You may need to return to the place of purchase, with your receipt, and have them active your Apple Gift card.
I bought gift card from tesco store , went to apple store to check to see if it was activated properly ?
found out someone else redeemed card not the person the card was intended for - meaning i have lost £50.
Contacted apple.com to ask them how long it takes for card to be activated and they checked card on their system and informed me the card was activated immediately - then when i sent code to my nephew someone intercepted the code and redeemed it into their own account
Meaning i lost £50 and my nephew is furious i didn't him nothing for his 18th birthday ?

Gift Cards are activated at the retail location where it was purchased. Take it back along with the receipts to have them resolve the problem. Usually you will also have an Activation Number on the receipt when it was correctly Activated.
Apple provides email gift cards. That is safer than method you chose. Sorry for your nephew. 😢😢

Receipt states could take up to 24 hours for card to get activated , went to apple store in Newcastle city centre and they checked card and there was no balance on card but card hasn't been redeemed by anyone ?

Where did you purchase the card, an Apple Store? How is Tesco involved? I don’t understand what is going on?
