Apple Pencil 2 discharges while connected to Ipad Air 4 Gen.

Normally my pencil is always at 100% and ready to go. I noticed lately is at 0-30% when I need to use it and not showing charging and would indicate that it is discharging while connected magnetically to the ipad (not showing the charging symbol). If I remove it and put it back on (adjust it even) it starts to charge and seems ok eventually going back to discharging. I cannot find what causes it to discharge constantly. The pencil is less than a year old. The last pencil just died and would not charge or even show as connected. Any help diagnosing this would be appreciated.

Hi phawryluk,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities, we're happy to help out.

Other than moving the Apple Pencil around or lifting it from the iPad and reattaching, have you tried any other steps? Here are a few we recommend to get started with and see if either of these help resolve the charging issue.

First, try restating your iPad following the steps below. These steps are found in Restart your iPad - Apple Support.

How to restart an iPad without a Home button
1. Press and hold either volume button and the top button until the power off slider appears.
2. Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, force restart your device.
3. To turn your device back on, press and hold the top button until you see the Apple logo.

If the behavior with charging continues, try removing the Apple Pencil from your Bluetooth devices, turn off Bluetooth, and then turn it back on. Should you need help with pairing the Apple Pencil, see Pair Apple Pencil with your iPad - Apple Support.

Reach back out if you have any questions.

Take care!
