Purchased a new iPhone. Tried to pair the watch. Watch will not paid. Screen appears frozen

Watch appears frozen. The Apple icon will not go away. Unable to turn it off. Won’t pair with phone.

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 11

If the Watch has been paired with another phone previously, see if the Apple support article below can help:
