How to do software update

When I went into settings and went to the update page I did not see anything about updating it please let me know if you know how. Thank you so much.

To make space available, you will need to delete or move existing content. If you are not able to make sufficient space, you may be able to update using a computer.

If you need more space for an update on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

So when I go into settings I has a number 1 in a red circle and I go to the software updates page it says available I go to that page and then I can’t update it.

Update 16 is not available in my I pad. I have Newyork times app and I ask me to up date to read its content
