Apple Photos to FCPX drag and drop 'Missing Remote Media' alert icon on photos but not videos

I have a M1 Mac mini running the latest FCP version 10.6.6. My system photo library and FCP libraries are both on the same G-Tech external drive. My FCP backups are located on the Mac mini Macintosh HD.

When I drag and drop still photos from Photos to FCP a 'Missing Remote Media' alert icon appears. This does not occur when I drag and drop videos from Photos to FCP.

I also am unable to 'reveal in finder' the missing photo file location on the Macintosh HD, therefore, relinking clips to original media files does not work because a matching filename cannot be found.

I noticed the same sort of effect 2 months ago in FCP 10.6.6.

I believe it is a bug because everything worked OK when I reverted to 10.6.5

10.6.7 also appears to have the same problem.

Luis thanks very much for your help!

All of my files are now stored locally as follows -

I created a new project in my existing FCP library and can now reveal in finder the photo I dragged & dropped. Even though my system photo library is on my G-Tech external drive a .tiff of my photo was generated and located on the Mac mini MacIntosh HD/private/var/folders/pj/b6wwmyrj1xg30zlj3pg03z180000gn/T/PhotosImportTask/18D80AAF-03DC-417C-88D7-28E7FDFE6F79.

Since this is a temporary cache, this file was deleted when the system restarted and FCP generated a 'Missing File' alert icon as follows -

Could my storage settings could be causing this problem?

By changing the cache to the Library on my G-Tech drive, I was able to see with finder the .tiff file on G-TECH 4TB/Users/jarqcs/Jay & Pegs iMovies/2023 Movies/Ken Cheryls 20th Anniversary/Ken Cheryls 20th Anniversary.fcpbundle/7-23-23/Original Media

Not sure what caused a few copies of the same photo to have the resolution drop to 64x48.

I dragged and dropped another photo and the resolution was good, but the photo .tiff file was back on the MacIntosh HD temporary folder.

Any suggestions or recommendations on how to fix the aforementioned would be greatly appreciated! Thanks is advance for your help!

Those photos are probably in iCloud. FCP can only access media stored locally. You need to make sure that they are stored locally. I don’t use iCloud Photo libraries; it seems to me that the user cannot easily control what gets stored locally or in iCloud. If it fails otherwise, export the photos you want from Photos to a folder in your mac and then import from there to FCP.

Wow, "me too" I thought I was crazy. Same issue with 10.6.8; Apple support was of little help with this issue.

How can I revert to an earlier version (10.6.5) of my software? Never done that and I want to avoid using time machine (which will set my computer back 6 months).

The issue is only when pulling from the Photos app. Importing stills to the time line from desktop or any basic folder works fine.

@cmr0139, you can go into your TimeMachine backup and copy the 10.6.5 version of FCP into your Applications folder. Rename your current 10.6.8 FCP to something like Final Cut Pro 10.6.8.app. I *believe* there was a FCP library database update between 10.6.5 and 10.6.8 so libraries you've worked on in 10.6.8 won't open in 10.6.5. You can open them in 10.6.8 and save an XML of the library, event or project, then import that into FCP 10.6.5. If your media was stored inside the library you'll need to move it out and then relink. Or as Ian says, try 10.6.10. Keep a zipped copy of 10.6.8 in case it doesn't work out and you need to revert.
