when searching for a file, how can you show results only in a specific folder? In the example below, I want to see all results in the folder "FTM2" where filename contains "VANCE"

Open the folder and type ⌘+F. Enter your search term in the search field and hit Return or Enter:

Based on your screen shot, you are searching the "FTM2" folder.
If search result show up when you select This Mac, and there are results in that folder, this may help:
