started in recovery mode but I cannot get "continue" after selecting install OS. The Tab key gets me over to continue but Return does not work. Also my apple Mouse does not work either.

If you can tab to the button, the spacebar should activate it. Return activates the default button.
That worked well but NOW I am stuck at the "select the disk where you want to install macOS". Still in Recovery mode. No button combination that I have tried gets me past this screen.
Do you have a wired mouse you can use?
Try the arrow keys if the tab is not working.
I have ordered a wired mouse for only $7. Arrow keys do not work either.
