iPhone 13 Pro Max IOS 16.5.1
All of a sudden, the background for text messages has changed to black, and it's very difficult for me to read print that is white.
I've gone to settings - accessibility - display and text and have tried multiple things, but I have not been able to turn it back like it was. I have no idea how this changed,

Thanks. When I went into Ft. Worth (TX) yesterday, where there is an Apple store, I stopped in there. It was the "Smart Invert" that was on. Not sure how that got turned on, when I hadn't even opened the settings in over a week, and this just showed up day before yesterday.

Just fixed mine on iPhone. Go to Settings-Display and Brightness - click on “Light” in the box on the left.
also to see better increase the brightness option. Hope it helps

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities.
We understand that your text background has changed in Messages. Check that you do not have Dark Mode enabled in Settings > Display & Brightness.

You mentioned checking Accessibility settings. Be sure that you do not have Smart Invert enabled or Color Filters.
