Wrong Date when automatically set, despite doing everything.

I didn’t use my Macbook Air M1 2020, for a month due to my very busy schedule. After a month when I restarted it I found that the internet was not working despite being connected to working Wifi.

I found that my Macbook is showing wrong date when automatically set. It was more than 1.5 years off of current date. Also the time was incorrect despite being in correct time zone.

I manually corrected time and date everything worked fine.

but the problem still persists. Whenever I set date and time to automatic on system settings, my Macbook goes back 1.5 years to January 2022 and also wrong time.

I have done everything from restarting my MacBook to Reinstalling the MacOS Ventura. But nothing seems to work. Please Help!

Good morning Fahd,

I have had the same problem with a few M1 & M2 Macbook Airs. The Apple time server does not provide the correct date and time.

I tried all the tricks from the forums to get that time server working with no luck.

I tried a different time server and that gave me my success. My process was:

  1. Open Date and time settings
  2. Set the source to: pool.ntg.org
  3. Confirm
  4. Open the terminal
  5. Input the following command to force update: sudo sntp -sS pool.ntp.org
  6. Input password to commit request

This fixed my issue immediately. I hope this helps.

Thanks

Goccu

I have done everything

Then do what works... nothing wrong with a manual setting if you are getting an error.

Internet provider, server issues, traceroute issue—It may well be out of your control.

You can try again in one week and compare your results if you are determined to set it to auto.
