I think I had a similar problem. With the help of the support I realised my system sound settings were correct. However somehow I selected the microphone from the Macbook instead of 'Use System Settings' directly in the FaceTime App on my Macbook. After I corrected the wrong settings everything now works fine.
Hey there Hamouinb,
Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities.
To get started, let's first ensure that your AirPods microphone is selected as an input device when connected with your Mac. Check out this link for help with checking these settings: Change the sound input settings on Mac - Apple Support
1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu> System Settings, then click Sound
in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
2. Click Input on the right, then select the device you want to use in the list of sound input devices.
All sound input devices available to your Mac are listed. If your display has an internal microphone, it’s listed as [Mac model] Microphone.
3. Do any of the following to adjust your sound input settings:
* Adjust the input volume: Drag the volume slider.
If you’re recording sound through your computer’s sound port, you can adjust the input volume to compensate for the sound source being too loud or quiet.
For example, if you’re recording loud music, lower the input volume so the recorded sound isn’t too loud or distorted. If you are recording someone who is speaking softly, increase the input volume so your Mac can better capture the person’s voice.
If your AirPods microphone is already selected as an input device, try resetting your AirPods with the steps in this next resource and reconnect them once more to your Mac to test the issue again: How to reset your AirPods and AirPods Pro - Apple Support
Keep us updated on the results.
Take care!
