Enable iCloud sync during hotspot

Is it possible to enable iCloud syncing while using HotSpot(getting net access from my iPhone on my Mac)? In other words documents folder that is linked to the iCloud are not syncing while using the hotspot

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 13.4

To what end? Is this thought of as an improvement? The hotspot IS the internet. Do you not see that? Is this a difficult concept to understand? I can't make edits to a document while on the hotspot and print those changes until I'm connected to wifi? Is this something you think people want? This is a complete inane limitation that has NO benefit. Let me make this very clear, NO ONE wants restrictions around what type of internet they are using. The hotspot is acceptable enough to preform ANY other task. Explain to me the reasoning behind this? Who is this helping? - I now have to leave fed-ex where I'm printing my document to go find Wi-Fi, wait for this to sync, then go back to fed-ex to print my document. Does this sound like a problem I should be having in 2024? Seriously, I can't understand the absolute moronic nature of this limitation.

Hi,

I'm facing same issue. I found some solutions, one is using 2 Macs. The first one is connected to the iPhone (which is connected to the internet) and the 2nd one is connected to first Mac which shares its network connection.

I find another solution : GL.iNet GL-SFT1200 (approximately 40€).

This small router can be used as a wifi repeater and ethernet switch. It can share smartphone connection through usb port also but I didn't test it yet. I connected my Mac with ethernet, I shared my iPhone network with wifi and it worked, Photo library on my Mac has uptaded.

Hello gogagubi,

If you only experience this behavior while using Personal Hotspot, then that would be expected:

Certain apps and features that require a Wi-Fi connection might not work while using a Personal Hotspot. For example, you might not be able to make an iCloud backup or upload photos to iCloud Photo Library or Photo Stream.

That information is included in the "Learn more" section at the end of this article: How to set up a Personal Hotspot on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

So you may need to connect to a traditional Wi-Fi network to access those particular services.

Take care.

Unfortunately, you may have misunderstood where you are. This is not Apple; this is a community of users. Ranting here doesn't do you, nor anyone, any good. If you want to make suggestions to Apple, then go here:

Feedback - Photos - Apple

But again, ranting won't help. Try being composed and polite when you suggest things. It almost certainly will work better.
