Apple Photos on Mac- does not display Recents

The app does not show Recents, only Albums. Rebooting does not work. Using View>Photos>Library brings the Recents up, but the app showed Recents as default when starting up. How can I reset this?

This is a shot in the dark, but have you accidentally closed the "Photos" view?

To see the Recents and other pre-set views you have to open the "Photos" section by clicking the little ">" symbol next to the very hard to see "Photos" label at the upper left of the screen. When you always have that open, and somehow it gets closed, it can be hard to figure out what happened.
