Updates for iPhone 8 Plus after iOS17

As per the WEEE guidelines, (waste from electrical and electronic equipment) it is environmentally friendlier to continue using your current phone rather than discarding it to upgrade to a latest model.

I like my device and don’t want to upgrade.

Will Apple continue releasing security updates at least after releasing iOS17 which won’t be compatible with iPhone 8 plus and prior models?

If no does that mean it is not safe to continue using the iphone?

How can I campaign to raise awareness for Apple to consider releasing security updates at the least for all prior models.

Here is the list of security updates and you can see that it includes an update 3 weeks ago for devices all the way back to the iPhone 6s which was launched just about 8 years ago. (September 25, 2015)

I think every one knows Apple takes security seriously. It is crystal clear when compared to other device manufacturers.

For iOS, Apple regularly releases security patches for 2 years following its initial public release. In the case for iOS 16, this would be until on/about the final release of iOS 18 or mid-late 2024. Seldomly critical security updates will be released after that but is rare.

Apple welcomes users to provide feedback on this using the form below which would go to the development staff. This board is a user-to-user support forum and is not regularly viewed by Apple.

Hope this helps.

Did you read the Apple security release linked? If you did you would see that for the mentioned iPhone 6s, there were over 30 security updates and software updates (which include security fixes) in the last 3 years, for a device that is nearly 8 years old.

You are very wrong to say that Apple only releases security patches for 2 years after initial release. The report goes back many years and gives all devices updated. Have a look!
