Duplicate Photos

Recently I have noticed that photos I took are now duplicated on the phone. One of the photos has the trashcan icon at the bottom next to the "Info" icon and the other photo has the "Info" icon but NO trashcan icon to delete the photo.. There are some photos sent to me via text msge that also duplicated. Images I got through Whatsapp have not duplicated...

What happened that created the duplicate with no trashcan icon

I have not had the phone connected to itunes at all... I am using the iphone SE 2020..

I have not seen this until the last update.. I am using 16.5.1 IOS version - Did this update

create this issue and how to keep it from happening again?

I don't use icloud ... I don't even have a password into icloud... have never used it.

Hello PunjabSis,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Sounds like you're not seeing the option to delete a duplicate photo. Just to confirm, are you following these steps here? Find and delete duplicate photos and videos on iPhone - Apple Support

1.) Tap Albums, then tap Duplicates below Utilities.

Duplicate photos and videos appear next to each other.

2.) Tap Merge to combine the duplicates, then tap Merge [number] Items.

Merging combines the highest quality version and all of the relevant data across the duplicates, and keeps that one in your library. The remaining duplicates are moved to the Recently Deleted album.

If that doesn't help, try refreshing things by performing these steps below:

1.) Close the Photos app: Close an app on your iPhone or iPod touch - Apple Support

2.) Restart your iPhone - Apple Support

If you continue to experience issues, please reach out to Apple Support. They might have to investigate this issue further with you. Use this link to reach them: Get Support

It sounds like you're describing duplicated photos on your iPhone. We can help.

When you say that these photos are duplicated, do you mean that you see two copies in the same album, or do you mean that the photos exist in more than one album?

Let us know, and we'll continue from there.

yes, they have suddenly showed up in my Camera roll. under one of the photos, it has the icons to send it to someone, a heart for favorites, an i in a circle and then the delete trashcan. under the 2nd photo, the only icons under it are the send to someone icon and the i in a circle. One I can delete but the other I cannot delete.

I never had this happen before and it seems to have shown up after the latest update..

What caused this and how to fix it.. If I delete the one with the trashcan icon, then there don't seem to be a

way to delete the other one... This is strange. I don't use itunes

Hi Vila_S

I went to "Album" and under "Utilities" there was no "Duplicates" name listed.. The only thing under are "imports", "Hidden" and "Recently Deleted"

I turned off the phone and waited 2 minutes and turned it back on and Now I don't see anymore

duplicates...

Thank you... usually when I have an issue with the phone, I turn it off and then back on.. but didn't do that

this time... didn't think about it this time.. Thank you.. it solved it..

do have question ... some of the i in a circle icon has a small star at the top left of it and some don't.. What is the difference with this and why the difference... I'm trying to search for the answer
