Unable to find the balance slider to adjust volume on Apple Studio Display

There is no right/left balance slider with the studio display built in speakers. I believe if you connect external speakers the slider will reappear.

I have the same problem.

Sound through my iMac can be balanced - System Settings>Sound and at the bottom of settings is a Balance Slider.

Once I route sound through the Studio Display speakers the Balance Slider disappears. I am connecting with the Apple provided cable via a Thunderbolt port.

No, sorry, nothing different.

I'm on Sonoma 14.0 but all other settings are the same.

The Apple chap I spoke to indicated output through the Display is 8-channel sound [spatial audio?] so it is not simple to manage stereo balance. I got the impression it was controlled by the Display OS and macOS automatically. May be a high-end software package could access the sound features and give full control.

The in-built Apple Audio MIDI Setup app doesn't allow any tinkering with balance -you can just test each channel and see where the sound comes out. I have given this one up.

Same setup, and no balance slider. However, if I connect my AirPods Max, the slider appears. Once I disconnect the AirPods, it disappears. Seems to me that Apple doesn't want you messing with the balance of the Studio Display speakers, for whatever reason. (I also tried rebooting the Studio Display, but that made no difference.)

In the Sound Preferences, you have to click on the OUTPUT tab to get the Balance Slider to appear. Then just slide it left or right to compensate for your hearing loss.
